Timothy Chen
Founding Partner
Tim is a business executive and investor. He has been at the forefront of China’s transformational growth over the past 30 years, helping scale some of the world’s largest companies in Greater China and Asia-Pacific. Tim was previously at the helm of various multinational companies in their Greater China expansions. He served as the CEO of Microsoft Greater China, CEO of the National Basketball Association (NBA) China, President of Telstra International Group and China President of Motorola. On the investing side, Tim was a Partner at international private equity firm GL Capital Group. Tim also has extensive experience in the boardroom, having been the Chairman of Foxconn Industrial Internet (SHA: 601138) and Chairman of Autohome (NYSE: ATHM). He has also sat on the boards of Beigene (NASDAQ: BGNE), Telstra (ASX: TLS), Haier (SHA: 600690), Digital China (HKG: 0861), LSI (acquired by Broadcom) and various other companies. Tim received an MBA from the University of Chicago and dual master’s degrees in computer engineering and mathematics from Ohio State University.
Michael Chen
General Partner
Michael manages an early stage venture capital fund, Root and Shoot Ventures, and a syndicate of emerging business leaders and angel investors. Michael previously worked at Credit Suisse in New York conducting equity research covering the semiconductor industry. Michael was a group growth and product manager at WeLab, a leading fintech company in Asia. At WeLab, he helped to scale one of Hong Kong’s first neobanks, managed WeLab’s US$156 million Series C fundraising round and supported WeLab’s expansion into Indonesia. Michael received a Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University and an MBA from Tsinghua University (Tsinghua-MIT International MBA program).
